Birth Story: The Stay-at-Home Mom—Mom of 6

🌸 A peek into the chaotic life of a mom of six – Instagram: de Huismama

For weeks I’d had a hard belly; I often thought it was about to start, but it just didn’t happen. On Thursday, January 15, I was sitting at the midwife’s office crying—I was feeling a bit worn out, but I wasn’t tired of it yet. On Friday evening, January 16, I was regularly passing pinkish mucus—could it finally be starting soon?

On Saturday, January 17, I woke up feeling a bit disappointed—I’d been hoping it would have started that night. All day long, I wondered whether it had started or not. I was having cramps every so often, but were these just false labor or the real thing? I called the midwife at 4:30 p.m., and she was there within half an hour. She monitored me, and I think I was subconsciously holding back because things weren’t really progressing much yet. She left again at 6:00 p.m.

I went to eat, but I had to breathe through a few strong contractions; I could tell this was happening fast. I called the midwife, and she arrived at 7:30 p.m. She examined me and found I was 4 cm dilated. Off to the hospital! After arriving there at 8:30 p.m., I asked her again to check my progress—I was 6 cm dilated.

I really wanted to take a bath—it was already set up but not filled, and we weren’t going to fill it anymore… I started having some serious contractions; I felt so much pressure. I asked her to check again at 9:00 p.m.; it turned out I’d dilated to 10 cm in that half-hour—wow! This was happening incredibly fast. My water broke 9 minutes later; after 6 minutes of pushing, Loek was born at 9:15 p.m. 🧸🩵
