Frequently Asked Questions

Being pregnant is special, and it’s completely normal to have questions about what you wear during one of the most beautiful moments of your life. Here you’ll find answers to the questions we receive most often, from size advice to washing instructions.

A birthing dress is a specially designed dress you wear during and directly after giving birth. The dress gives medical staff easy access (IV, CTG, blood pressure) and makes immediate skin-to-skin contact with your baby possible after delivery.

After the birth, your midwife will place your baby on your chest for skin-to-skin contact. You can pull up a regular t-shirt, but it’s much easier with our birthing dress and its snap buttons down to your navel. During contractions it’s lovely to walk around the hospital room, and the dress falling over your hips means you can move around comfortably. In the weeks after birth and beyond, it’s wonderful to lie skin-to-skin with your little one. And if you’re breastfeeding, the birthing dress makes feeding easy and practical.

Please note: hospital policy determines whether you can wear your own clothing during a caesarean section. In some hospitals the birthing dress may not be permitted in the operating theatre. But don’t worry — in the hours before labour, and the hours and days after delivery, the dress is wonderfully practical. It makes your time in hospital so much more comfortable.

Bamboo is the best material for a birthing dress. Bamboo fabric is exceptionally soft, moisture-absorbing, antibacterial and hypoallergenic. The birthing dress is made from 96% bamboo viscose and 4% elastane: ideal for sensitive skin during and after birth.

When ordering your birthing dress, simply go by the size that fits comfortably during your pregnancy. We designed the dress with your bump and your changing body in mind.

Use your regular t-shirt size as a guide. The dress has no shoulder seams, so it always fits beautifully on top. The fabric is highly elastic, comfortable and super stretchy. If you have a measuring tape at home, you can measure your favourite t-shirt: chest measurement in cm = armpit to armpit.

If you’re between two sizes, go for the larger one. Check the size guide on our size advice page.

Yes. The shoulder snap buttons make it easy to have skin-to-skin contact after a caesarean section as soon as this is medically possible. Always check with your midwife or gynaecologist about what you are allowed to wear in the operating theatre.

Yes, the dress is also ideal as a nursing dress and postpartum dress. The snap buttons make breastfeeding easy. Many mums wear the dress throughout the entire postnatal week at home. Months later it will still be your favourite nursing dress. That’s why we recommend the 3-pack: 1 dress on, 1 in the wash and 1 spare in the cupboard.

Wash at 30 degrees on a delicate cycle. Do not use fabric softener as this damages the bamboo fibre. Preferably dry flat or hang to dry. Do not tumble dry.

The birthing dresses cost 58 euros. The Mom Dress costs 68 euros. Sets including leggings are available from 84.95 euros. Free shipping on orders over 80 euros.

Pack your birthing dress around week 36 of your pregnancy, together with the rest of your hospital bag. That way you’re prepared in time, even if labour starts earlier than expected.

Yes, absolutely. The birthing dress is also ideal for a home birth. The dress gives your midwife the same access as in hospital, and you’ll feel comfortable and cared for throughout.
