Skin to skin with Faye and I am so happy. I gave birth at home.

After waiting so long, it’s finally going to happen, I’m going into labor! With Mace I was induced at 37+4 weeks and now I am 39+6 weeks pregnant. On 17-12-2023 at.

I feel a weird plop in the middle of my belly while having a “braxton hicks” contraction after breastfeeding Mace. I look at Dennis and tell him what I was feeling. He still says, if your water had broken we would have noticed. I said yes that’s true. I get another contraction and there it is. PLONS. My waters broke. The whole bed is wet and I quickly ask Dennis to grab a towel.

7:30 a.m.

Dennis is going to quickly get Mace ready so he can be picked up. Meanwhile, I call the birth photographer and my midwife.

I don’t really know what to do with myself, everything is wet. I decide to take a shower.

08:00 a.m.

Mace is picked up. I tell Dennis to call the midwife again because the contractions are getting closer and closer together and I think this is going to be very fast.

08:10

I get out of the shower and go downstairs to sit on the ball and Dennis starts setting up and filling the bathtub. The contractions are now close together and more intense.

Obstetrician arrives. At first I didn’t want VT but now I’m having doubts. We decide to fill the tub first and get everything ready and then reassess whether I want a VT or not. The birth photographer is on his way. Some contractions are more intense than others.

The midwife goes upstairs to get some supplies. As she leaves the room, I feel the head move downward.

08:45 a.m.

I feel the urge to squeeze and go from the ball to the ground. I’m on my hands and knees, shouting “she’s coming! The midwife comes down again. I ask if the bathtub is full. Not yet says the midwife smiling.

If I feel I need to push, I push.

The tub is not yet full and the birth photographer is not here yet. Dennis is behind me, ready to take care of our little girl.

I press and there’s her head! On the next contraction I squeeze again and there is her body! Dennis catches her. She is crying! Dennis hands her to me and all I can do is hug her. I am so happy and relieved that she is here!

I go to the couch and we wait for the placenta to come. I am holding our beautiful baby girl. She is perfect. Welcome sweet girl. Welcome dear Faye.

I am breastfeeding Faye for the first time and she is doing super well! The placenta is not there yet but I have a lot of cramps. I also feel like I have to pee. I walk to the bathroom with Faye in my arms.

I ask for some privacy. I try to pee but I don’t think I have to pee anyway, I feel something else. I put my free hand between my legs because I feel like the placenta is coming. And there it is. I catch my placenta with my hand. I call Dennis and the midwife. They help with the placenta and help me back to the couch.

I am skin to skin with Faye and I am so happy. I gave birth at home. Without intervention from the midwife and all together with Dennis. I didn’t make it to the bath and neither was the photographer but that doesn’t matter because Faye is safe and loved.
